The endocrine system consists of a network of glands that produce hormones that regulate basic body functions such as metabolism and growth. The amount of hormones produced by these glands must be carefully maintained. If there is too much or too little produced, the effects can be felt throughout the body and may result in a variety of endocrine system disorders.
Two of the most common endocrine system disorders are diabetes and thyroid disorder. But they are not limited to these two. Since the endocrine system controls many functions in the body, all sorts of problems ranging from osteoporosis to pancreatic cancer can develop if the system is off balance.
The glands that arent functioning properly will determine the type of disorder. For instance, improper functioning of the parathyroid gland can result in osteoporosis. Diabetes, on the other hand, develops when the pancreas does not produce proper levels of pancreatic endocrine hormones such as insulin.
Treating Endocrine System Disorders
There are a variety of treatments that can help reduce the symptoms or prevent the onset of these disorders. They range from surgery to alternative health remedies, such as herbal or nutritional supplements. All of these treatments can be viable and effective options. No matter what, it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor before beginning a new course of treatment.
